Not only is this a great read, but it takes a different tone than most of the other vampire stories out there! It is written wonderfully, and has great depth of characters. As an 80s kid I love vampires. They will always be a part of us. I love this book because it takes the vampire story and brings it to a original level without compromising the true heart of the story. The writing is very exciting and the characters are charming. Wonderful backgrounds for a wonderful story.

I already enjoy vampire stories, but I particularly liked the strong female character, Devi, in Vitaortus. Not just powerful, but smart and independent, unlike other female leads in this genre. The story sucked me in immediately and I can't wait for the next one!
Although I am not a frequent reader of stories involving vampires I really enjoyed this book. The characters are amazingly believable in interpersonal interactions although supernatural in abilities. Who knew they were all so handsome and virile!? The way that the environmental impact of pesticides and herbicides and pollution in general is brought into the plot is an interesting twist. I had a hard time putting the book down and I am definitely ready for Book II. I became engaged in the lives of the characters and want to know more about their future.
Had to reread after finishing the 3rd volume. Even better than the first time. Intelligent, artistic writing. Makes you feel well nourished.
Dea Schofield did a great job creating the main character Devi as a spunky, opinionated, cultured, cat loving woman who drives an old truck she loves (but still appreciates the power of an Aston Martin) and is sure to recycle her yogurt cups. Her vampire sidekicks seem like the perfect, snappily dressed men. The kind of guys you'd want to spend a night on the town with. Together they make for a good team saving vampires from extinction!
Vitaortus is set in Washington DC. The places Devi visits are actual DC "haunts"! So fun!
The only sad thing about reading Vitaortus is that there weren't 344 more pages to read!
I don't read these types of book. I bought it this morning and just finished reading it. Slow start but it was one that wanted me to keep reading. Until we got to the meat of the book. It's not a twilight rip off, which is a notch up in my book. The character took a while too develop, but when they did it was worth it. Dea's detailing is impeccable which is what I liked the most. Emotion was detailed. Scene was detailed.
I would rate a book like thia 4.5 just because it's not my genre. From what I read it deserve 5
I will read next book when I get home from work tonight
